In the Community

Proposed Central Library Site - Visible to All!
President’s Message

In cities and towns across the nation, many Friends of the Library groups are supporting their local libraries – providing books and other materials, children’s programs, and often furniture, computers, and whatever the libraries need to provide service to their communities. Similarly, our Friends of the Costa Mesa Libraries is providing support for our three branch libraries, and have spent more than $56,000 in the last 12 months for that purpose.
These funds come from your membership dues, from sales of used books (at both Mesa Verde and CM/Dungan), and from passport fees and passport photo sales (at CM/Dungan). But we can only accomplish this with your help – your membership dues, your book donations, and your volunteer time. Two hours a week of your time can make a great difference. For those of you who would like to become an officer or serve on a committee, there are opportunities there, also. Call our membership person, Sue White, at (714) 812-1546 to discuss which of your talents and time slots should be put to use.
Libraries are an essential part of a community. And strong libraries help to build strong communities. In order to compete in a progressively more technological world, it is necessary for our residents (of all ages) and small businesses to have access to information. Libraries are positioned to support the expansion of technology skills, continuous learning, critical research, and local-to-global networks of information that are the fuel of economies today. Take a part in building a stronger Costa Mesa. Support your local libraries through your membership in the Friends. And volunteer!
